Chant was a very special baby from the beginning, with a "Wizard of Oz theme", I wanted a unique name. After much searching on the web, I came across the term "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah", now you ask, what is that? Next time you watch the movie, listen to the "Winkie Guards" as they march outside the Wicked Witch's castle, this is what they are chanting ... thus, we have "Chant". Chant was 'my' pick male of 12 puppies born 6/16/02. Thank you to Chant's breeder, Yvonne Sargent for my "Ha Baby"!

Chant is 23.5 inches tall and ranges between 78-81 pounds. He is a moderate dog with substantial bone for his size. Chant possesses a short strong topline. He has tight round cat-like paws with good arch to his toes. He has full dentition with a scissors bite. Dark pigment. Chant has a large square head, with correct shaped eyes and kindly expression. Chant is blessed with lots of fore chest, depth of chest and rib spring. He has a lovely front with straight clean legs, and is clean coming and going. Chant is medium gold with lighter furnishings, and he carries a heavy coat throughout the entire year. Chant has a great temperament, neither aggressive nor wimpy.

Chant's show career included 6 points owner/handled from 9-12 & 12-18 during 2003. In 2004, his "mom" turned him over to a handler, when he picked up 3 majors in 3 weekends of shows. He was handled to 2 of those majors by Lindsay McDowell at Greenville, SC and Douglasville, GA. His last major to finish, he was handled by Amanda Bedell and won Winners Dog, Best of Winners at the Sandlapper Golden Retriever Specialty (Sunday Show). Since finishing, in limited showing by either his owner/handler or Lindsay McDowell, Chant has picked up 3 - Group 3's (3 SDHF points). On March 11th, 2005, Chant won Best in Specialty Show at the Everglades Golden Retriever Club Specialty under Breeder-Judge Kitty Cathey and handled by Lindsay McDowell, with this win it was my decision (& promise to him) to retire Chant from showing. Retirement could not last forever, Chant completed his Rally Novice Title at the 2008 GRCA National Specilaty, rally is fun for him, it does not last long and then the spectator attention can start! May 2009 Chant completed his CGC title.

Chant was certified as a Therapy Dog June 2003. Although he'd been visiting a Skilled Nursing Facility (which includes an Alzheimer's Ward) since he was 7 weeks, it was not until 13 months that he could be officially certified. Even while showing, he continued to work at the Nursing Facility on a regular basis. Chant now visits the Pediatric and Adult Oncology Wards at the DUKE University Medical Center. His laid back gentle nature makes him an awesome therapy dog. He truly senses the needs of the patients, and knows instinctively how to respond to their actions.

First and foremost, Chant remains our family pet and bed-buddy!! Please see our "Available Puppies Icon" for a list of breeders expecting Chant puppies, links to see pictures of Chant puppies and some accomplishments of his "chanties"! Chant's kids are not only excelling in the breed ring but many are working in field and obedience. August 2008, Chant became an OUTSTANDING SIRE based on the accomplishment of his kids. We are very thankful for the excellent job each breeder & owner does with their "chantie". Chant has many more pointed or major pointed puppies on the verge of finishing and we wish each continued success in whatever venue you choose. He has also produce 2 certified Service Dogs and many who like him are enjoying doing Therapy Dog visits at local facilities.
